Boutelle, Marsha. "UNIFORMS: Are They A Good Fit?." Education Digest 73.6 (2008): 34-37. Academic Search Complete. Web. 19 Dec. 2011. This article from Education Digest was useful in establishing how uniforms and dress codes affect student academic performance. One issue with this article was that it focused on dress code restrictions based on the California public school district and did not provide information on dress code across the United States.
"ECS Education Policy Issue Site: Uniforms/Dress Codes." Education Commission of the States--Helping State Leaders Shape Education Policy. Web. 19 Dec. 2011.
This website provided me information on the pros and cons of school uniforms. It also gave me a background on the basic rules and laws for dress codes and implementing dress codes around the United States. It helped establish why uniforms/dress codes are beneficial to school and academics and well as why they are not beneficial. Although it did not have one side that it talked more about, it gave me a good unbiased approach and was a good start to researching my topic.
Firmin, Michael, Suzanne Smith, and Lynsey Perry. "School Uniforms: A Qualitative Analysis Of Aims And Accomplishments At Two Christian Schools." Journal Of Research On Christian Education 15.2 (2006): 143-168. Academic Search Complete. Web. 19 Dec. 2011. This website provided me with information on student dress code regarding 4 major concepts. The 4 ideas that this article researched was how dress code affects 1) eliminate competition, 2) get students to dress appropriately, 3) decrease distractions and 4) lower cost. Although 3 of the 4 research objectives did not apply to what I was researching, the information regarding decreasing distractions among students did correlate with my research. This information gave me an insight to how students believe uniforms will help/hurt them in the academic section of school. It also showed the perspectives of parents after the study was completed.
